Places To Eat
While there is no longer a freestanding, independent kosher butcher shop in the area, fresh kosher meat can be purchased at Hen House Market, 11721 Roe Ave., in Leawood, KS 66211. Its Kosher Island features a delicatessen with such items such as rotisserie and fried chicken, beef brisket, deli sliced meats, salads and other meat and pareve items. Several shelves are devoted to kosher dry goods. Also, the Hen House bakery department offers dairy cakes, cookies, Tippins pies and a variety of pareve breads and packaged pareve items.
The Rams Café, located within the Jewish Community Center, operated by the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy PTO, is open Monday through Friday during the school year (closed on holidays and school vacations). Patrons can enjoy breakfast, lunch and snack foods. It is run solely by volunteers -- primarily HBHA parents and grandparents -- as well as some members of the Jewish community at large. The proceeds benefit the HBHA PTO and help to support all the programs and events that the PTO sponsors throughout the school year. For current hours or more information, call (913) 327-8207.
